چکیده

The data on ten SNP markers of Myostatin gene (GDF-8) was generated on nine breeds/populations of indigenous poultry and Red Jungle Fowl (RJF). The SNPs were five in promoter region, one each in intron 1 and 2 and three in exon 1. The data was analyzed to find out the genetic relationship among the indigenous chicken populations. PCR-RFLP was carried out to genotype the populations at seven SNPs while three were genotyped by SNaPshot method using automated DNA sequencer as no restriction sites were found at the SNP sites. ANOVA revealed 18% of the variation among the populations. The correspondence analysis separated out Punjab Brown, Red jungle fowl and Nicobari populations from the rest of the indigenous chicken populations. It is postulated that the populations of Punjab Brown and Nicobari showed the recent common ancestry with Red jungle fowl.

Assessment of genetic diversity and relationship of coastal salt tolerant rice accessions of Kerala (South India) using microsatellite markers

Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is one of the most significant cereal crops, about 3 billion people, nearly half the world's population; depend on rice for survival and it offers up to 80% of daily energy intake in most of the Asian countries. Knowledge of the distribution, extent and pattern of genetic variation is useful for estimation of any possible loss of genetic diversity and its role in breeding...

Application of single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) as a molecular marker in the study of genetic diversity of aquatic populations

Genetic diversity is one of the important and essential characteristics of any population for its survival. The study of genetic variation in different populations of aquatic organisms is of particular importance in order to protect, stabilize and manage their stocks. Based on studies conducted in recent years, molecular markers have proven that they can be used as indicators of the genetic div...

Gene silencing of myostatin in differentiation of chicken embryonic myoblasts by small interfering RNA.

Myostatin (GDF-8) is known to negatively regulate skeletal muscle mass in myogenesis, but few studies have been conducted on the function of endogenous GDF-8 in primary myoblasts. The present study was performed to assess the function of GDF-8 by RNA interference using primary culture of chicken embryonic myoblasts in which myoblasts were differentiated into myotubes. An active form of small in...

Evaluation of genetic relationship between 15 bamboo species of North-East India based on ISSR marker analysis

The classification of bamboos based on floral morphology and reproductive characters is very hard due to erratic flowering behavior and unusually long reproductive cycle. The application of reliable and effective DNA molecular markers is highly essential to address this problem. In the present investigation, inter-simple sequence repeats (ISSR) markers were employed to study phylogenetic relati...

A novel polymorphism of the GDF₁₀ gene and its association with body measurement traits in Chinese indigenous cattle.

Body measurement traits are known to play numerous important roles in the assessment of productivity and economic value. They are influenced by several factors, among which genetic factors are predominant. The gene GDF₁₀ is involved in skeletal morphogenesis and is associated with body measurement traits. It may be an important candidate gene for marker-assisted selection. We used the PCR-SSCP ...
